What is Visual Anthropology?

Visual Anthropology engages with contemporary art in that they both explore revelations of specific realities that visual representation has made possible. For example: the relation between vision and reliving past experiences, visibility as an existential feature of identity, sociality as embodied practice, ritual space and its' representation and the inherent narrative of lived experience. Visual Anthropology is a discipline that focuses not just on image but those who makes them and why-the systems of production.
