Awakening

Natasha awoke. The kingsize bed was empty and she could feel that they were moving. Her sun-kissed, blonde hair was shielding her eyes from an orange glow that was gaining intensity through the back bedroom window above her. As she lifted her head and brushed the white linen sheets aside, she turned to see a vast sweeping landscape of rock dunes of piercing dusky white, cobalt blue, deep green and terracotta. The early morning sun released its orange glow over the rugged layers, activating their rich colours, so that they pulsed into the landscape expanding to a point of no return.  The endless road stretched out into the horizon as they travelled ever further through the painted desert. She could feel the depth of her own being awaken with the sunrise, that she was not herself but a part of the desert that expanded out before her.  As the warm glow enveloped the bedroom, she let her golden, blonde hair fall down her back and she took a deep breath knowing that she would always remember this moment.
